St Declan’s Catholic Primary School is a Catholic systemic co-educational school located in Penshurst. The school was established by the Sisters of Charity in 1907. Leadership of the school passed to the Sisters of St Joseph in 1914 until the first lay Principal was appointed in 1987. Approximately 99% of the students are Catholic and the majority of these children live within, and are drawn from, the St Declan’s Parish.

The school caters for students in Years K-6 and has a current enrolment of 420 students. There are 14 classes with an average of 30 students per class. Students attending St Declan’s come from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities.

There are strong school/home/parish links and parents are engaged in their children’s education through communication and active participation in the life of the school. A supportive and dedicated Parents and Friend’s Association exists for the benefit of all students, staff and parents through its fundraising activities, social events, working bees and administration of the tuckshop.
